Basement Damp Proofing Tauranga
Now we're getting into the serious stuff
Foundation waterproofing is what you need when water is not just seeping in as vapour but is actually breaching your foundation walls as liquid, often under hydrostatic pressure from saturated soil pushing against your structure. This is the kind of problem that can compromise the structural integrity of your home if it’s left unaddressed, and it’s exactly what our team deals with day in and day out.
The foundation is everything. It is literally what your home stands on. When water infiltrates a concrete or block foundation, it starts a slow process of deterioration. Freeze and thaw cycles are less of a concern here than they are further south, but Tauranga’s rainfall patterns and our clay heavy soils mean that after a wet winter, the ground around your foundation can hold an enormous amount of water and push it hard against your walls.
Exterior foundation waterproofing is the gold standard. This involves excavating around the foundation, applying a high quality waterproof membrane to the external face of the wall, installing a drainage board to channel water away, and then laying a perimeter drain (also called a French drain or ag drain) at the base of the footing to redirect water away from the structure entirely. When done correctly, this is a long term solution that protects your home for decades.

Interior foundation waterproofing is another option where exterior excavation is not practical, for example in homes with limited access or where cost is a constraint. Interior drainage channel systems collect water that does enter and route it to a sump pump, keeping your basement dry and functional even when the ground outside is saturated.
We’ve done foundation waterproofing work across the wider Tauranga area including properties on the slopes of the Kaimai Range foothills, in Pyes Pa, in Bethlehem, and down on the harbour edge where soil conditions can vary enormously. We know this land. We know how it drains and how it doesn’t. That local knowledge matters enormously in this trade.
